Care for oily hair is similar to dry hair: massage the scalp during shampooing to exfoliate, then work the shampoo through from root to tip to cleanse properly. Use shampoos for oily hair, containing amino acids and natural cleansing agents such as lemon juice. Try washing hair every other day or twice a week rather than daily to see if it reduces oiliness. (For fine hair that is oily, washing on a daily basis is recommended.). Do not wash everyday. The cleaner your hair is the more it can seep into your glands and harder it is to get rid of. When you do wash make sure you are washing with a cleaning shampoo and scrubbing the build up off. Take in mind that you also have to have a ph-balanced mild shampoo and lite scrubbing is recommended. Try to avoid conditioner at the roots, apply in the middle or on the ends.
Reduce the oil intake in your diet. Avoid oily food. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid drugs, alcohol and oils. You should consider changing your shampoo. Ask your stylist what you should use. Avoid using the two-in-one shampoos with conditioner. Chemically treating the hair can also contribute to oily hair. If possible, avoid subjecting your hair to such treatment and just use gentle styling products instead. Another tips to avoid greasy look is that sprinkle baby powder on your brush and comb through hair focusing on the roots. If you have dark hair, you can try spraying the roots and your part with hair spray then rubbing hair with a towel. The alcohol in the spray will absorb oils.
In Styling, “Because oil blocks the follicles, oily hair is usually fine hair,” says salon owner Johnny Lavoy. Avoid silicone, heavy pomades, and creams and opt for an airy mousse, applying it at the roots to add fullness. Babes with bangs tend to touch their tresses a lot, and that excites oil glands, so cut back on the mane handling, says Roy Teeluck of NYC’s Julien Farel Salon.
